General information about Dubivtsi

The village of Dubivtsi is located between Luzhany and Berehomet, next to the highway N-10 "Chernivtsi - Kolomyia".

It was first mentioned in 1464 as the village of Dubovets (Dubovchyk). According to legend, the founders were the Tsyhanchuk brothers who fled Bessarabia from the Turks and found refuge in an oak grove near the banks of the Prut.

The development of the village in the 18th century is connected with the return of immigrants from Canadian emigration. At the same time, a wooden Assumption Church and a small stone Catholic chapel were built.

The manor house of Baron Shymonovych (1914) has also been preserved.

Assumption of Holy Virgin Church

Temple , Architecture

The Church of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin Mary was built in Dubivtsi in 1775 and reconstructed in 1782.

It is considered one of the best examples of Hutsul wooden architecture. A three-log temple with a dome over the central log. A small five-tier carved iconostasis has been preserved in the interior.

In recent years, the compositionally harmonious structure of the Church of the Assumption has been covered with galvanized iron, as a result of which the church has lost the specific charm characteristic of wooden religious buildings.

The names of two world-class Ukrainian singers - Orest and Denys Rusnak - are associated with the Assumption Church. Their father was a priest in this church, and they themselves sang in the church choir as children. The museum exposition in the nearby one-story building of the village school tells about it.

Orest Rusnak Museum

Museum / gallery

The room-museum of the singer Orest Rusnak was opened in Dubivtsi in 1995 in the village school building next to the Assumption Church.

The singer's father Manoliy served as a priest in this church, and he himself sang in the church choir as a child together with his brother Denys Rusnak, who later became a conductor. Orest Rusnak became famous as an outstanding tenor, the "Ukrainian Caruso".

The museum mainly presents photographs and newspaper clippings. Of the three museum stands, one is dedicated to Orest Rusnak, the second to Denis Rusnak, and the third to the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Orest Rusnak's birth.
