The village of Popilnia is located 70 kilometers southeast of Zhytomyr.
Founded in the 17th century. The name is most likely related to the production of potash, which was made from the ashes of burnt trees. In the 18th century, Popilnia belonged to Prince Lubomyrskyi. The development of the village of Popilnia is connected with the construction of the Fastiv - Kozyatyn section of the Kyiv - Odesa railway line in the middle of the 19th century. A railway station of the same name was built near the village of Popilnia, around which the present settlement was formed.
Nicolas Church was built in 1995.
