Romaniv

The urban-type village of Romaniv on the Lisna River is located 70 kilometers west of Zhytomyr. Administratively, it is part of the Zhytomyr district.

First mentioned in the Lithuanian metric of the 15th century. From the second half of the 16th century, Romaniv belonged to the princes of Ostrozki and was assigned to Chudniv Castle. In the 18th century, it became the property of the Ilinsky family, who turned it into a family estate and built a luxurious palace.

In 1817, at the request of Count Yuzef Avhust Ilinsky, Romaniv was granted the status of a small town by royal decree. After, in 1846, Yadviha, the only daughter of Count Henry Ilinsky, married the Polish Count Henrikh Stetsky, the Romaniv estate passed into the control of the Stetsky family.

The Ilinsky-Stetsky Palace burned down in a fire in 1877, and at the same time a significant part of the family's collection of works of art was lost (individual paintings from the Ilinsky-Stetsky collection are now on display in the Zhytomyr Local Lore Museum). During Soviet times, the remains of former county buildings were destroyed. Only a part of the park and a lake with the island of Vyspa have survived.

Until recently, the Romaniv glass factory, founded in 1903 by the then owner of the town, Henrikh Stetsky, functioned.

In the 1990s, a brick church of Saint Stanislav was built in Romaniv.

Палац Ілінських-Стецьких згорів під час пожежі 1877 року, тоді ж була втрачена значна частина родинної колекції творів мистецтва (окремі картини з колекції Ілінських-Стецьких зараз представлені в Житомирському краєзнавчому музеї). За радянських часів були знищені залишки колишніх графських будівель. Збереглася лише частина парку та озеро з островом Виспа.

До останнього часу функціонував Романівський склозавод, заснований у 1903 році тодішнім власником містечка Генріхом Стецьким.

У 1990-х роках у Романові було споруджено мурований костел святого Станіслава.
