Siedove

Siedove is a fishing and resort village on the Azov Sea (Northern Azov region), at the base of Kryva Kosa, 35 kilometers east of Mariupol. Administratively, it is part of the Novoazovsk territorial community of the Kalmiuske district of  Donetsk region.

In the 18th century, Zaporizhzhian and Don Cossacks, engaged in fishing, began to settle here. During the Crimean War in 1802, the inhabitants of Kryva Kosa repulsed the English ship "Jasper", which tried to land a landing party.

In 1877, the outstanding polar traveler Heorhiy Syedov was born here, in whose honor the village was renamed Siedove in 1941 (the museum is open).

On Kryva Kosa, which juts out far into the sea, there is the Buckeyes Kryva Kosa reserve: places for mass nesting of birds, protected estuaries.

The air is saturated with the aromas of bromine and iodine. There is a wide strip of sandy beaches. 

Until 2014, Siedove was a tourist gem, welcoming thousands of vacationers from all over eastern Ukraine. In August 2014, the village became one of the points of a large-scale invasion by regular Russian troops. The loss of control over Siedove meant for Ukraine the loss of a significant part of the coast and the exit of the occupation forces to the strategic direction of Mariupol.

As of 2026, the village of Siedove is under temporary Russian occupation, has the status of a closed military facility and a "resort in occupation". The occupation authorities have introduced a strict system of passes and checkpoints at the entrance. The once popular seaside resort is now in a neglected state. Most of the children's camps and boarding houses are either closed or used for other purposes. The territory is used as a recreation base for representatives of the occupation structures and a limited number of civilians from the occupied territories.

На Кривій косі, що видається далеко в море, розташований заказник Бакаї Кривої коси: місця масового гніздування птахів, заповідні лимани.

Повітря насичене ароматами брому та йоду. Є широка смуга піщаних пляжів. 

До 2014 року Сєдове було туристичною перлиною, що приймала тисячі відпочивальників з усього сходу України. У серпні 2014 року селище стало однією з точок масштабного вторгнення регулярних військ РФ. Втрата контролю над Сєдовим означала для України втрату значної частини узбережжя та вихід окупаційних сил до стратегічного напрямку на Маріуполь.

Станом на 2026 рік селище Сєдове перебуває під тимчасовою російською окупацією, має статус закритого військового об'єкта та "курорту в окупації". Окупаційна влада запровадила жорстку систему перепусток та блокпостів на в'їзді. Колись популярний морський курорт зараз перебуває у занедбаному стані. Більшість дитячих таборів та пансіонатів або законсервовані, або використовуються не за призначенням. Територія використовується як база відпочинку для представників окупаційних структур та обмеженого кола цивільних осіб з окупованих територій.
