Kovalivka

The village of Kovalivka on the Kolomak River is located 15 kilometers east of Poltava. Administratively, it is part of the Poltava city territorial community.

The emergence of Kovalivka at the end of the 17th - beginning of the 18th century is connected with the intensive settlement of places around Vorskla during the Cossack state. It was first mentioned as the Cossack village of Kolomatsky, later as Generalivka - in honor of its founder, General Johann Weissbach. Researchers believe that the current name of the village came from the surname or occupation of the first settlers.

In the middle of the 18th century, Kovalivka was part of the Second Hundred of the Poltava Regiment and belonged to the Counts of Rozumovsky. In the 19th century, the village belonged to the landown ...

In the middle of the 18th century, Kovalivka was part of the Second Hundred of the Poltava Regiment and belonged to the Counts of Rozumovsky. In the 19th century, the village belonged to the landowners Podchasky, Herbut-Geibovych, and Trepke.

During the Soviet times, a children's labor colony named after Maxim Gorky was located on the territory of the Trepke estate, headed by Anton Makarenko, the founder of the Soviet system of child and adolescent education. Later, the Children's Colony named after Volodymyr Korolenko was created in its place. Now it is the Anton Makarenko State Museum-Reserve.

In the village there is one of the largest contact zoos of Ukraine "Ecopark Kovalivka". On the shore of Kolomak, a recreation area "Liberty Beach" has been set up.

У середині XVIII століття Ковалівка входила до складу Другої сотні Полтавського полку, перебувала у власності графів Розумовських. У XIX столітті село належало поміщикам Подчаським, Гербут-Гейбовичами, Трепке.

За радянських часів на на території маєтку Трепке розмістилася дитяча трудова колонія імені Максима Горького на чолі із засновником радянської системи дитячо-підліткового виховання Антоном Макаренком. Пізніше на її місці була створена Дитяча колонія імені Володимира Короленка. Зараз це Державний музей-заповідник Антона Макаренка.

В селі знаходиться один з найбільших контактних зоопарків України "Екопарк Ковалівка". На березі Коломака облаштовано зону відпочинку "Берег свободи".
