Luhansk is a large industrial city, the center of the easternmost region of Ukraine.
It was founded at the end of the 18th century on the banks of the Luhan River, on the site of one of the Cossack guard posts in the Wild Field.
The development in the 19th century was associated with the construction of a foundry in the village of Kamyany Brid, which produced cannons for the Black Sea Fleet, and then a large steam locomotive factory.
The outstanding writer and linguist Volodymyr Dal, the author of the explanatory dictionary, was born here. The construction of the old part of the city with buildings of the XVIII-XIX centuries has been partially preserved. Luhansk City Day is celebrated on the second Saturday of September.

Заснований в кінці XVIII століття на березі річки Лугань, на місці одного з козацьких сторожових постів в Дикому полі.
Розвиток в XIX столітті пов'язаний з будівництвом ливарного заводу в селі Кам'яний Брід, що виготовляв гармати для Чорноморського флоту, а потім великого паротягобудівного заводу.
Тут народився видатний письменник і лінгвіст Володимир Даль, автор тлумачного словника. Частково збереглася забудова старої частини міста з будівлями XVIII-XIX століть. День міста Луганська відзначається в другу суботу вересня.
З 2014 року перебуває під окупацією росії.
Polovtsian Stone Statues Park
Archaeological site
Luhansk Park-Museum of Polovtsian Stone Sculptures is one of the largest collections of stone statues of the 11th-12th centuries in Ukraine. It is located on the territory of Luhansk National University.
"Stone Polovtsian Babas" are statues from 1 to 4 meters high, depicting warriors (sometimes women). They were installed on mounds by ancient peoples: Scythians, Polovtsians and others.
These are the only monuments of monumental art of nomadic peoples who have long disappeared, who lived in the territory of the present Luhansk region.
