Svitlovodsk

Svitlovodsk is a city of hydraulic engineers and power engineers, one of the youngest cities in Ukraine. It is located on the high Taburyshchansky Cape above the Kremenchuk Reservoir, 15 kilometers up the Dnipro from Kremenchuk.

Founded in 1954 on the site of the ancient village of Taburishche at the same time as the construction of the Kremenchuk hydroelectric plant on the Dnipro (the 3rd stage of the Dnipro Cascade), it was called Khrushchev for a while, then KremHES, until it got its current name in 1969. It included the historic city of Novoheorhiivsk, which was relocated from the flood zone, known since 1615 as the Polish fortress of Kryliv.

The main quarters of the city are stretched along the shore of the reservoir. In the center is the Park of Culture and Recreation named after Taras Shevchenko, where a monument to Kobzar was erected in 1978.

Засноване в 1954 році на місці старовинного села Табурище одночасно з початком спорудження на Дніпрі Кременчуцького гідровузла (3-й ступінь Дніпровського каскаду), деякий час називалося Хрущов, потім КремГЕС, поки в 1969 році не отримало нинішню назву. Включило в себе відселений із зони затоплення історичне місто Новогеоргієвськ, відоме з 1615 року як польська фортеця Крилів.
