General information about Kaharlyk

The city of Kaharlyk on the Rosava River is located 70 kilometers south of Kyiv, on the Kyiv-Znamyanka highway.

It has been known since 1142 as a Berendei settlement under the name Horodets, then Erlyk (in Turkic - "border post"). According to another version, the predecessor of Kaharlyk was the ancient Rus city of Torchsk, which is indicated by a memorial stone on the hillfort in the city park.

Since the 17th century, Kaharlyk belonged to the Tarnovskys, who built a fortress (it has not been preserved). After the accession of Ukraine to Russia, Emperor Paul I presented the Kaharlytskyi estate to courtier Dmytro Troshchynskyi, who built the palace and park complex and the Trinity Church (restored). Only the park with the arbor-rotunda has survived from the Troshchy ...

Holy Trinity Church

Temple

The Holy Trinity Church in Kaharlyk was restored on the same place where it was built in 1800 at the expense of landowner Dmytro Troshchynskyi.

The temple stood directly opposite the Troshchynskyi palace, from which the park surrounding it has been preserved. The rector of the church was the writer Vasyl Kapnist for some time. The famous artist Volodymyr Borovykovskyi painted the "Last Supper" icon for her.

During the Soviet era, the church was destroyed. In 1998, the first stone in the foundation of the new Trinity Church was consecrated. Currently, the construction of the temple, which was carried out with donations from entrepreneurs, organizations and residents of the city, has been completed.

Park / garden

Park in Kaharlyk was founded at the end of the 18th century by the Ukrainian nobleman Dmytro Troshchynskyi, a statesman and patron of Ukrainian culture, a descendant of Hetman Ivan Mazepa.

He received the estate in Kaharlyk after 1796 as a gift from Emperor Paul I. The park had a palace, outbuildings, and farm buildings. Copies of Greek and Roman statues were placed in the alleys and lawns.

The gazebo-rotunda on the "Mashuk" hill and the "Sazhalka" pond, which is fed by underground springs, have been preserved.

On an area of 35.5 hectares, there are 113 types of trees imported from the Crimea, the Caucasus and European countries.
