The village was founded in 1787, when the Zaporizhzhian Cossack Huz settled here, after whose name the village was originally called Huziivka. In 1791, in connection with the construction of the Church of the Holy Trinity, Huziivka was renamed Novotroitske. During the Soviet rule, the village was renamed Nova Astrakhan. In 2024, in accordance with the requirements of the law of Ukraine "On condemnation and prohibition of propaganda of Russian imperial policy in Ukraine and decolonization of toponymy", the village of Nova Astrakhan was returned to its historical name - Huziivka .
