Enerhodar

Enerhodar, a city of Zaporizhzhian energy workers, is located on the left bank of the Dnipro (Kakhovka Reservoir).

It was created in 1970 during the construction of Zaporizhzhia GRES. In 1979, the construction of Zaporizhzhia NPP began here - the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. It was one of the last shock constructions of the USSR, where graduates of the country's best universities gathered. The first 4 power units of the ZNPP were put into operation in 1984-1987, and the last sixth unit was commissioned in 1995.

Enerhodar is still one of the most "young" cities in Ukraine - the average age of residents is 28 years old. The most popular place for the citizens to relax is the shady embankment along the promenade, where there are cafes, restaurants, an exhibition hall and a library.

Once every two years, the international theater festival "Good Theater" takes place in Enerhodar. The city is also known as the venue for the motocross championship.

From the very beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, fighting began over Enerhodar and the Zaporizhzhia NPP located in the city. Since March 1, residents of Enerhodar have been putting up heroic resistance to the Russian occupiers. On March 4, the site of the Zaporizhzhia NPP was seized by the Russians and the city came under occupation. All this time, Enerhodar is exposed to shelling. There are dead and injured civilians. The Russian invaders have placed heavy weapons on the territory of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, in particular, missile complexes, which are used for shelling the right bank of the Dnipro River, the territory of the Nikopol and Apostoliv communities.

The actions of the Russian Federation, consisting in the seizure of the largest nuclear facility in Europe, the destruction of the station's infrastructure, damage to all power lines, are the most difficult situation of this kind in history. The potential threat from the development of events may significantly exceed the scale of previous disasters at nuclear power plants.

Раз на 2 роки в Енергодарі проходить міжнародний театральний фестиваль "Добрий театр". Також місто відоме як місце проведення чемпіонату з мотокросу.

Від самого початку повномасштабного вторгнення Росії до України у лютому 2022 року почалися бої за Енергодар та Запорізьку АЕС, розташовану в місті. З 1 березня мешканці Енергодару чинять героїчний спротив російським окупантам. 4 березня майданчик Запорізької АЕС було захоплено росіянами і місто потрапило в окупацію. Весь цей час Енергодар піддається обстрілам. Є загиблі та поранені серед мирних мешканців. Російські загарбники розмістили на території Запорізької АЕС важке озброєння, зокрема, ракетні комплекси, яке використовують для обстрілів правобережжя річки Дніпро, території Нікопольської та Апостолівської громад.

Дії Російської Федерації, що полягають у захопленні найбільшого в Європі ядерного об'єкта, руйнування інфраструктури станції, пошкодження всіх ліній електропередач, є найскладнішою в історії ситуацією подібного роду. Потенційна загроза від розвитку подій може значно перевершити масштаби попередніх катастроф на атомних електростанціях.
