Nyzhni Vorota

The village of Nyzhni Vorota is located on the international highway E-50 (M-06) Kyiv-Chop, between Skole and Svaliava.

It is located next to the historical Veretsky pass, which is closely related to the Hungarian legend about the acquisition of the homeland. Hungarian tribes led by Arpad passed through this pass in 894-896, moving from beyond the Urals to the Danube valley.

The settlement has been known since the 13th century as Veretsky (Gate), then Nizhny Veretsky. The name Rus Gate was also used, since many Ukrainians (Rusyns) moved to Transcarpathia by the same route.

Since the 18th century, these lands belonged to the Schonborn counts. In 1896, an obelisk (now restored) was erected on the pass, which was then the border between the Hungarian and Austrian parts of ...

The old Lviv-Uzhhorod road passes through the pass.

The village is home to the Hirnicho-Carpathian Research Station.

There is a Patrol Police post on the highway, and there is a developed roadside service infrastructure.

Поселення відоме з XIII сторіччя як Верецьки (Ворота), потім Нижні Верецьки. Також вживалася назва Руські Ворота, оскільки тим же шляхом на Закарпаття переселялося багато українців (русинів).
