Kuzemyn

The village of Kuzemyn on the right bank of the Vorskla is located 30 kilometers southwest of Okhtyrka. Administratively, it is part of the Hrun hromada of the Okhtyrka district of the Sumy region.

On a high hill near the bridge over the Vorskla at the entrance to the village is the "Castle" hillfort, which in Scythian times was one of the fortifications of the Bilsk Hillfort. In the 12th-13th centuries, a fortified Old Rus settlement of the Siverians tribe existed here, and in the first half of the 17th century, a small border town of Kuzemyn (Kuzemchyn) was founded, which until 1648 belonged to the possessions of Prince Jeremi Michał Korybut Wiśniowiecki (Yarema Vyshnevetsky).

During the War of Liberation, a Cossack hundred was formed in Kuzemyn, which was part of the Poltava and later Hadyatsky regiments. In the 19th century, the town was the center of the Kuzemyn volost of the Zinkiv district of the Poltava province. Weaving and embroidery were developed in the village - at the beginning of the 20th century, more than 200 craftsmen worked.

During the Holodomor-genocide of 1932-1933, 145 villagers died. The Church of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary was destroyed by the communists in the 1930s. In his childhood and youth, the writer Ivan Bahriany lived here for some time.

In recent years, Kuzemyn has been turning into a center of modern culture and arts thanks to the activities of the "Art Kuzemyn" Residence. The culinary hallmark of the village is Kuzemyn paniankas (Christmas gingerbread).

Село Куземин на правому березі Ворскли розташоване за 30 кілометрів на південний захід від Охтирки. Адміністративно входить до складу Грунської громади Охтирського району Сумської області.

На високому пагорбі біля мосту через Ворсклу на в'їзді в село знаходиться городище "Замок", яке у скіфські часи було одним із укріплень Більського городища. У XII-XIII століттях тут існувало укріплене давньоруське поселення племені сіверян, а у першій половині XVII століття було засноване невелике прикордонне містечко Куземин (Куземчин), що до 1648 року належало до володінь князя Яреми Вишневецького.

Під час Голодомору-геноциду 1932-1933 років померло 145 мешканців села. Церква Покрови Пресвятої Богородиці знищена комуністами в 1930-х роках. У дитинстві та юності тут деякий час проживав письменник Іван Багряний.

В останні роки Куземин перетворюється на центр сучасної культури та мистецтв завдяки діяльності Резиденції "Art Kuzemyn". Кулінарною візитівкою села є куземинські панянки (різдвяні пряники).
