Tarakaniv

The village of Tarakaniv is located on the M-06 highway "Rivne - Lviv" near Dubno.

In 1488, the manor of the Torokans near Dubno is mentioned, although archeological findings show that the settlement existed from the 13th century. At the end of the 16th century, the village was destroyed during one of the Tatar raids on Dubno, after some time it was revived on the present site, on the floodplain terrace of the Ikva River.

At the end of the 16th century, the village was destroyed during one of the Tatar raids on Dubno, after some time it was revived on the present site, on the floodplain terrace of the Ikva River.

Tarakaniv Fort, built in the 19th century as part of the defensive fortifications on the border of Russia and Austria to protect the Kyiv-Lviv railway, is located on a wooded hill above Ikva near the village. It is a quadrangular brick structure surrounded by powerful earthen ramparts with stone walls and casemates. It was used during the First World War, later it was abandoned, and it is gradually falling into disrepair.

Behind the neighboring village of Pidluzzhya, next to the highway, there is a Shevchenko spring, near which Taras Shevchenko stopped during a trip in 1846.
