General information about Iliv
The village of Iliv is located in the narrow valley of the Ilovets River among steep hills and dense forests of the Stilsko Highlands, 5 kilometers east of the village of Stilsko, 15 kilometers from Mykolaiv. Administratively, it is part of the Stryi district of the Lviv region.
The official date of foundation is considered to be 1400, although in the 8th-10th centuries there was a satellite village of Stilsko settlement, the ancient capital of the Slavic tribe of White Croats. The remains of the Iliv settlement with three caves in the rock have been preserved on the forest-covered Tokareva Mountain, which rises above the southern outskirts of the village.
For a long time, Iliv belonged to the Tarlo noble family.

Село Ілів розташоване у вузькій долині річки Іловець серед стрімких пагорбів та густих лісів Стільського Горбогір'я за 5 кілометрів на схід від села Стільсько, за 15 кілометрів від Миколаєва. Адміністративно входить до складу Стрийського району Львівської області.
Офіційною датою заснування вважається 1400 рік, хоча ще у VIII-X століттях тут існувало поселення-супутник Стільського городища, давньої столиці слов'янського племені білих хорватів. Залишки городища Ілів із трьома печерами у скелі збереглися на високій скелястій Токаревій горі, що височить над південною околицею села.
Протягом тривалого часу Ілів належав родині шляхтичів Тарлів.
Дерев'яна церква Воздвиження Чесного Хреста збудована у 1921-1923 роках.

The Iliv settlement-sanctuary of the 8th–10th centuries is a part of the Historical and Cultural Reserve "Stilsko Settlement".
It is located 5 kilometers to the east of the Stilsko settlement, the ancient capital of the Slavic tribe of White Croats.
The settlement is located on a promontory of the plateau at a height of about 80 meters above the Ilovets River, which washes its foothills partly from the northern and western sides. Traces of two concentric defensive ramparts and ditches are still visible on the high, rocky, forest-covered Tokareva Mountain, which rises above the southern outskirts of the village of Iliv. There is also a rock with three small caves. One of them is a cave-room, hollowed out of the rock by human hands. The entrance to the cave is made in the form of a woman's womb. Perhaps the goddess Mokosha was once worshiped here.
Presumably, the Iliv settlement was the main sanctuary of the White Croats. Later, monks settled in the caves, and during the Second World War, local residents and UPA soldiers hid here.
A very steep path equipped with a wooden handrail leads to the cave complex.
