Buchak

The small and hard-to-reach village of Buchak is located in a saddle between hills on the steep right bank of the Dnipro (Kaniv Reservoir) in the middle of a deciduous forest.

Known since the 18th century, although other settlements existed here earlier. In particular, the source "Rozhena krynytsia" in the Hrybiniy tract northwest of the village is connected with the legend about the campaign of the Kyiv princes Svyatoslav, Ihor and Volodymyr against the Polovtsy.

According to one of the versions, the village was named Buchak at the beginning of the 19th century by Mykola Potoski, the elder of Kaniv, after the name of his residence in Buchach. According to one of the versions, the village was named Buchak at the beginning of the 19th century by Mykola Potoski, the elder of Kaniv, after the name of his residence in Buchach. At the beginning of the 20th century, the village belonged to Count Caesar Shelembek. At that time, there were a school, 7 mills, and 2 forges on its territory.

During the fording of the Dnipro in 1943, about 1,000 Soviet soldiers died in battles in the Buchak area (a monument was erected).

Since the 1970s, Buchak has become popular as a summer vacation spot for the creative intelligentsia. The decline came in the 1980s during the construction of the Kanivska HPP. The station was never completed, but most of the village was resettled.

A lake with clean water has formed on the site of the lower pit of the HPP - a popular place for camping. Beautiful views from the terraces on the slopes of the Dnipro cliffs.
