Chornyi Ostriv

The urban-type village of Chornyi Ostriv on the Pivdenniy Buh River is located 20 kilometers northwest of Khmelnytskyi.

According to legend, it was founded by Voivode Svyshch, who found refuge from the Tatars on an island in the middle of the river. In the XV-XVI centuries it belonged to Novodvorskyi. It received Magdeburg law in 1556, when it belonged to Konstantsa Svirch. At the same time, a castle was built, which later passed to the Vyshnevetskyi.

In the 18th century, Mykhaylo Pshezdetskyi built a palace on the site of the castle, which is partially preserved to this day (a museum is located in one of the buildings, a music school is located in the other). In 1847, the composer Ferents List visi ...

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin (1797) and the Transfiguration Church (1775) are also preserved.

In 1855-58, the nobleman Leonid Hlibov taught at the noble school of Chornyi Ostriv.
