The most popular museums of Ukraine in all regions will be visited by volunteers who will conduct a control assessment of their barrier-free status.
Do you have a favorite museum? Are you planning to visit an interesting exhibition? But imagine that you cannot get into the museum premises physically! Others can, but the passage is closed to you. Many Ukrainians are in such a situation - people with disabilities, temporary injuries, elderly people, parents with babies, etc. Most of the museums of Ukraine are not yet adapted for visitors with reduced mobility, their exhibits are not accessible to the visually impaired, and tours are not suitable for visitors with hearing impairments. But some have fewer barriers, and in some places they are completely barrier-free.
The project "Inclusive Travels in Ukraine: Accessibility of Museums of Ukraine" aims to help everyone choose a museum where they can be physically accommodated and provide the necessary services in an accessible form. To do this, we collect a database of museum facilities with a detailed description of the conditions for receiving visitors from groups with limited mobility and persons with disabilities at each facility. The stage of surveying museums with the collection of information by their own efforts is coming to an end. At the same time, the monitoring of the state of barrier-free museum facilities by volunteers begins.
Volunteer monitoring of the accessibility of Ukrainian museums will take place from September 20 to October 3, 2021. Anyone can participate in the project!
Monitoring is a series of evaluations and measurements, including a survey of the surrounding area, the entrance group, the interior spaces and the museum exposition itself. The accessibility assessment methodology was developed by our experts and is designed in the form of an online questionnaire. Therefore, to carry out monitoring, it is enough to have a tape measure, a protractor (physical or a mobile application on a smartphone), an Internet connection (it is also possible to fill out the questionnaire offline in the form of a paper printout) and access to the premises.
If you have the opportunity to promote one or more museums in your city/region, please fill out the online registration form at the link: https://forms.gle/Xbee5b2rcScXhMur9
When we receive your registration form, you will be contacted by the coordinator of the volunteer group of the project, Kateryna Strazhyr. She will coordinate with you specific objects from the list of the most important museums in your region and the possible time of your visit to monitor them. We will provide you with all the necessary documents and instructions, as well as (if possible) coordinate with the administration of the relevant museum the time of your visit and the possibility of free entry on condition of presentation of the accompanying letter.
