Tourist route along rebel trails created in Yaremche

The rebel kryivka-museum was restored in the Dora hamlet on the territory of the Yaremche hromada. The reconstructed shelter of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army soldiers was presented during a press tour organized by the Ivano-Frankivsk regional branch of the Association of Ukrainian Cities, reports the "Versii" publication.

The museum was created near the place where three rebels died in 1952 after betrayal: Vasyl Orfenyuk (pseudonym "Chornomorets"), Yurko Struk (pseudonym "Hora") and Mykola Dudzyany (pseudonym "Chornous"). Their hideout was discovered and surrounded by NKVD forces. In an unequal battle, the guys died without surrendering.

"They were hunted since spring. They did not come out of their shelter in the winter so as not to leave any traces. But in the end, someone betrayed them. They were surrounded, but the guys resisted to the last," said Maria Andriikiv, chief specialist of the tourism department of the Yaremche hromada.

The restored room has an area of ​​about 35 square meters - twice as large as the real one, but it retains historical authenticity. The ceiling, walls and floors are wooden, the entrance is well disguised. A feature of the kryivka is its thoughtful layout: a spring passed through it, and air entered through hidden ventilation holes. The room had a small stove and a primus, on which food was cooked - exclusively at night or in the fog to avoid smoke.

The restored hideout became part of the "Return to the Past" project, which won the regional competition for local initiatives. It was implemented in 2021 with financial support from the regional and city budgets.

Local residents collected household items and personal belongings of the insurgents for the museum: helmets, photographs, candles, prayer books, clothes, old books, an iron, a typewriter, icons. Everything is authentic, passed down by families who remember or knew the UPA members personally.

In total, according to old-timers, at least 11 kryivkas operated in Dora. This one is one of the last ones that has been preserved and restored, and which the Soviet secret services could not detect for a long time. It should be included in the future tourist route along the insurgent trails of the Yaremche hromada.

"We planned to make a route through the places of the heroic struggle of the UPA - Dora, Yaremche, Mykulychyn, Yamna. There are still many unexplored points there, where there were parking lots, kryivkas, and battles. This project is currently on pause, but after the victory we will definitely return to it," said Roman Yakubovsky, the first deputy mayor of the Yaremche hromada.

The restored kryivka is open to visitors. It is especially popular on memorial days, in particular on the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a traditional holiday honoring UPA soldiers. According to the workers, commemorative events and refreshments are held on site.

Повстанську криївку-музей відновили в присілку Дора на території Яремчанської громади. Реконструйоване укриття вояків Української повстанської армії представили під час престуру, організованого Івано-Франківським регіональним відділенням Асоціації міст України, повідомляє видання "Версії".

Музей створили неподалік місця, де у 1952 році, після зради, загинули троє повстанців: Василь Орфенюк (псевдо "Чорноморець"), Юрко Струк (псевдо "Гора") та Микола Дудзяний (псевдо "Чорноус"). Їхнє сховище було виявлено та оточене силами НКВС. У нерівному бою хлопці загинули, не здавшись.

"На них полювали ще з весни. Вони не виходили з укриття взимку, щоб не залишати слідів. Але зрештою хтось їх зрадив. Їх оточили, але хлопці чинили опір до останнього", – розповіла головна спеціалістка відділу туризму Яремчанської громади Марія Андрійків.

Відновлене приміщення має площу близько 35 квадратних метрів – удвічі більше за справжнє, однак зберігає історичну автентичність. Стеля, стіни й перекриття – деревʼяні, вхід добре замаскований. Особливістю криївки є продумане планування: через неї проходило джерело, а повітря надходило через сховані вентиляційні отвори. У приміщенні була невелика піч та примус, на якому готували їжу – виключно вночі чи в туман, щоб уникнути диму.

Відтворене сховище стало частиною проєкту "Повернення в минуле", який переміг в обласному конкурсі місцевих ініціатив. Його реалізували у 2021 році за фінансової підтримки обласного й міського бюджетів. 

Місцеві мешканці зібрали для музею побутові речі та особисті речі повстанців: каски, фотографії, свічки, молитовники, одяг, старі книги, праску, друкарську машинку, ікони. Усе – автентичне, передане родинами, що пам’ятають або знали упівців особисто.

Загалом у Дорі, за словами старожилів, діяли щонайменше 11 криївок. Збережена і відновлена саме ця – одна з останніх, яку довго не могли виявити радянські спецслужби. Вона має увійти до майбутнього туристичного маршруту повстанськими стежками Яремчанської громади.

"Ми планували зробити маршрут місцями героїчної боротьби УПА – Дора, Яремче, Микуличин, Ямна. Там є ще багато незвіданих точок, де були стоянки, криївки, бої. Зараз цей проєкт на паузі, але після перемоги ми обов’язково до нього повернемося", – запевняє перший заступник міського голови Яремчанської громади Роман Якубовський.

Відновлена криївка відкрита для відвідувачів. Особливо часто її відвідують у дні пам’яті, зокрема на Покрову Пресвятої Богородиці – традиційне свято для вшанування вояків УПА. Тоді, за словами працівників, на місці влаштовують пам’ятні заходи та частування.
