Morivsk

The legendary village of Morivsk on the Desna River is one of the oldest settlements in Chernihiv Region.

It is known from the annals since 1139, but the official date of its foundation is considered to be 1594, when Morivsk was revived after its decline during princely feuds and the Mongol-Tatar invasion.

On the maps of Muscovy of the 16th and 17th centuries, it is marked as Muromsk, from which some scientists build versions about the origin of the legendary hero Ilya Muromets from these places, and not from the city of Murom in Russia.

During the Liberation War, Morivsk became the center of a special hundred of the Kyiv regiment.

The wooden church of Saint Nicholas (19th century) has been preserved, changed beyond recognition by the recent reconstruction.

Легендарне село Морівськ на річці Десна - одне з найдавніших поселень Чернігівщини.

Відоме з літописів з 1139 року, проте офіційною датою заснування вважається 1594 рік, коли Морівськ було відроджено після занепаду за часів князівських усобиць і монголо-татарської навали.

На картах Московії XVI-XVII сторіччь позначений як Муромськ, з чого деякі вчені будують версії про походження билинного богатиря Іллі Муромця саме з цих місць, а не з міста Мурома в росії.

Під час Визвольної війни Морівськ став центром особливої сотні Київського полку.

Збереглася дерев'яна церква Святого Миколая (XIX століття), до невпізнаності змінена недавньої реконструкцією.
