The village was founded in 1826 as Motuzivka from the first inhabitant named Motuz. In 1918, it was renamed Oliinyky by the Soviet authorities in honor of the Bolshevik Oliinyk, a member of the Red Partisan unit, which was engaged in the establishment of Soviet occupation in the Kharkiv region. In 2024, in accordance with the requirements of the law of Ukraine "On Condemnation and Prohibition of Propaganda of Russian Imperial Policy in Ukraine and Decolonization of Toponymy", the village of Oliinyky returned its historical name - Motuzivka.
