The village of Staryi Skalat is located 20 kilometers northwest of Pidvolochysk, next to Skalat.
The year 1295 is considered the date of foundation. The settlement began to be called Staryi Skalat after the current Skalat was founded nearby in the 16th century.
The church of Saints Cosmas and Damian (1643) has been preserved, in which the grandfather of the outstanding Ukrainian director and theater theorist Les Kurbas served. The church of Blessed Yakub Strepa (1910-1912) has also been preserved.
Nearby is Holy Mountain with a source of healing water. The Church of the Holy Spirit (1878) and the Church of Saint Joseph (19th century) are located on the mountain.
Село Старий Скалат розташоване в 20 кілометрах на північний захід від Підволочиська, поруч зі Скалатом.
Датою заснування вважається 1295 рік. Старим Скалатом поселення почало називатися після того, як в XVI сторіччі неподалік був заснований нинішній Скалат.
Збереглася церква Святих Косьми і Даміана (1643 рік), в якій служив дід видатного українського режисера та теоретика театру Леся Курбаса. Також зберігся костел Блаженного Якуба Стрепи (1910-1912 роки).
Поруч знаходиться Свята Гора з джерелом цілющої води. На горі розташовані церква Святого Духа (1878 рік) та костел Святого Йосипа (XIX століття).
Blessed Yakub Strepa Church

The church of Blessed Yacub Strepa was founded in Staryi Skalat in 1910. The construction of the church in the neo-Romanesque style was completed in 1912.
In Soviet times, the building was used as a warehouse. The shrine was restored after Ukraine gained Independence in 1995-1997.
Les Kurbas Memorial Museum-Manor

The memorial museum-house of Les Kurbas is located in the village of Stariy Skalat, where the memorial house of his grandfather, priest Pylyp Kurbas, has been preserved.
The childhood and youth years of the future outstanding Ukrainian director passed here.
Near the church where Pylyp Kurbas served, relatives of Lesya Kurbas are buried: grandfather and grandmother, father, younger brother Nestor.

The Greek-Catholic Church of Saints Cosmas and Damian, the great martyrs and penitents in Staryi Skalat, was built in 1643 on the hill above the center of the village.
