Dunaivtsi

The ancient Podillya city of Dunaivtsi, located on the banks of the Ternavka River, is 30 kilometers northeast of Kamyanets-Podilskyi. Administratively belongs to Kamyanets-Podilskyi district. The Khmelnytskyi – Chernivtsi highway passes through it (in 2020, a new bypass road was opened for traffic).

The name may be based on the root "duna" (water), since the settlement is surrounded by numerous lakes. The first mention of the town of Dunaivtsi dates back to 1403, and in 1592 King Syhizmund III Vasa granted it Magdeburg rights. In Polish-Lithuanian times, the city belonged to the Lyantskoronsky magnates, then the Stanislavsky magnates.

In 1649, during the campaign to Zbarazh, the Crimean horde ravaged the town, almost all the inhabitants of Dunaevtsi died. In 1782, a Polish nobleman, the starost of Opinohora, Yan Krasynskyi, invited German colonists to the city and founded a cloth factory (a museum was opened in one of the premises). The Krasynskyi manor, rebuilt in later times, has survived.

In the 19th century, the people of Dunaivtsi belonged to the Polish family of Skybynevsky. On the eastern outskirts of the city there is a landscape park with ponds, which remained from the estate of Admiral Vasily Zavoyko from the 19th century - now the district hospital is located here. A bust of the composer Vladyslav Zaremba, who was born in Dunaivtsi, has been installed.

There are several hotel and restaurant complexes at the entrance to Dunaivtsi from the Khmelnytskyi side.

У ХІХ столітті Дунаївці належали польському роду Скибиневських. На східній околиці міста знаходиться ландшафтний парк зі ставками, що залишився від маєтку адмірала Василя Завойка ХІХ століття – тепер тут розташована районна лікарня. Встановлене погруддя композитора Владислава Заремби, який народився в Дунаївцях.

На в'їзді в Дунаївці з боку Хмельницького є кілька готельно-ресторанних комплексів.
