Shyshaky on the Psel River is a village 45 kilometers east of Myrhorod.
It was first mentioned in 1399. In Cossack times, the town had the status of a hundred and belonged to the Myrhorod regiment.
The Shyshaky hydroelectric power station on the Psel River was built in 1956.
In the vicinity of Shyshak, 5 barrows were investigated, flint products of the Neolithic era, and 2 burials of the Bronze Age were found. A settlement of the early Slavs of the Chernyakhiv culture (II-VI centuries) was found in the Dernova Dolyna tract.

В околицях Шишак досліджено 5 курганів, знайдені крем'яні вироби епохи неоліту, 2 поховання епохи бронзи. В урочищі Дернова Долина знайдено поселення ранніх слов'ян Черняхівської культури (II-VI сторіччя).

The Shyshaky Museum of Local Lore was opened in 1967.
There are about 2,000 exhibits in 6 rooms: archival documents, archaeological finds, relics from the Second World War, etc. Permanent expositions tell about the nature of the region and the history of Shyshaky.
Among the most interesting exhibits: a copper cauldron from the Scythian period, a battle mace and ax of the 13th century, a saber of the 14th century, a Cossack pistol, a grain grinder, the first Shyshaky telephone, a radio receiver from the period of the Second World War.
