Kardashynka

The large village of Kardashynka is located on the banks of the Kardashynskyi estuary in the lower reaches of the Dnipro, between Hola Prystan and Oleshky.

It was founded in 1785, although people have settled here for a long time. In the 17th century, at the confluence of the Chayka River into the estuary, there was a Cossack settlement of Kardashyn, captured by the Turks in 1699. After the Zaporizhzhia Sich was liquidated in 1775, part of the Cossacks moved to Kardashynka. According to legend, the first settlers were three brothers ("kardash" - brother in Turkish) who founded Kardashynka, Velika Kardashynka and Mala Kardashynka.

In 1775, Saint Andrew's Church was built (now half-ruined).
