The mining town of Pavlohrad is the center of Western Donbas. Located between the Dnipro and Donetsk.
It arose in the 18th century as several farms between the Hnizdka, Vovcha and Kocherha rivers. In 1784, the hamlets were united into a city, which became the center of the Katerynoslav Governorship. The first settlers were Zaporozhzhians from Samara and Kalmius palankas. The regiment of Pavlohrad hussars, who became famous in the war of 1812, was stationed here. The famous lieutenant Rzhevsky, the hero of numerous anecdotes, served in this regiment (a humorous monument has been erected).

Pavlohrad Drama Theater named after Borys Zahava was founded in 1974.

Holy Assumption Church

The brick Holy Assumption Church was built in Pavlohrad in 1896 with donations from the city's residents. It was placed near the city cemetery on a dry elevated area.
Vasyl Rybnykov, the first head of the church, is buried under its walls. In the 1930s, the temple was closed and converted into a granary. It was reopened in 1943 and has not been closed since then. The painting was finished in 1996.
The main shrines: a rakia with fragments of the relics of Saints Philaret of Moscow and Theodosius of Chernihiv, Reverend Fathers Optinsky, Iona of Kyiv, Lavrentius of Chernihiv, Saint Barbara.
The Sunday school of Saint Nina, the enlightener of Georgia, operates at the church. On the day of the feast of the Assumption of the Mother of God, a procession to the cathedral is held.
Monument to lieutenant Rzhevsky

A monument to the literary and folklore hero Lieutenant Rzhevsky was erected near the central passageway of the Pavlohrad Chemical Plant.
It is believed that the hero of Oleksandr Hladkov's play "Once Upon a Time", Lieutenant Dmytro Rzhevsky, served in the Pavlohrad Hussar Regiment, although the play does not directly mention this.
The image of a reckless hussar became popular after the release in 1962 of Eldar Ryazanov's film comedy "Hussar's Ballad". Since then, many frivolous anecdotes with sexual undertones have been born about the lieutenant with vulgar mannerisms. Other real and literary characters of the 19th century hussar era often appear in anecdotes.
The Belarusian sculptor Volodymyr Zhbanov depicted lieutenant Rzhevsky, who carelessly sits on the back of a bench and carelessly twists his mustache.

The Pavlohrad Museum of History and Local Lore is located in the city center, next to the Cathedral of the Non-Manufactured Savior.
The exposition tells about the history of the city, including the famous 135th Pavlohrad Hussar Regiment, which became famous in the Franco-Russian War of 1812.
There is an interesting ethnographic collection and exposition that tells about the Cossacks of Samarska Palanka.
One of the most interesting exhibits is a well-preserved Cossack boat of the 15th century.
Saviour's Not-Made Image Cathedral

The Cathedral of the Three Thrones of the Saviour's Not-Made Image is the main Orthodox church of the city of Pavlohrad.
Founded in 1892 on the initiative and at the expense of the honorary citizen of Pavlohrad Yakiv Holubytskyi. At the beginning of the 20th century, there was a library at the cathedral. In Soviet times, this temple was the only one that was not destroyed, but it was badly damaged during the Second World War. In 1960, the Saviour's Cathedral was finally closed and converted into a gymnasium.
Returned to the church in 1991, a complete restoration was carried out.
