The village of Luhyny on the Zherev River is located 109 kilometers north of Zhytomyr.
Founded in 1606. The name comes from the word "meadow". The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin was founded at the beginning of the 19th century. At the end of the 19th century, Luhyny became the parish center of the Ovruch District and a large trade center, transshipment point for bread from the agricultural south of Polissya.
In 1917-1920, the town was one of the centers of the liberation struggle. The Volyn group of the UNR Army operated here under the command of Yuriy Tyutyunnyk.

Засноване в 1606 році. Назва походить від слова "луг". Церква Різдва Богородиці була заснована на початку XIX століття. В кінці XIX століття Лугини стали волосним центром Овруцького повіту та великим торговим центром, перевалочним пунктом хліба з землеробського півдня на Поліссі.
В 1917-1920 роках містечко було одним з центром визвольної боротьби. Тут діяла Волинська група Армії УНР під командуванням Юрія Тютюнника.

The Luhyny People's Museum of Local Lore was opened in 1980 on the initiative of local teacher Zoya Sulska.
The museum is located next to the House of culture and has 8 exhibition halls. The exposition tells about the ancient history of the region, about the foundation and development of the town of Luhyny, about the traditional life of local residents, as well as about the nature of Polissya.
In particular, stone tools, axes and a sword from the times of Ancient Rus, household items of Polishuks from the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th century, embroidered towels, women's and men's clothing, and carpets are presented.
A table with hollow bowls attracts special attention.

The Stavropygian Church of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin Mary was founded in Lugyny at the beginning of the 19th century.
It is one of the most interesting examples of the classical style in the monumental wooden architecture of Polissya.
It belongs to the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate.
