General information about Horodske

The picturesque village of Horodske on the rocky banks of the Teteriv River is located 5 kilometers from the Zhytomyr highway M-06, northeast of Korostyshiv. Administratively, it is part of the Starosiletska rural community of Zhytomyr district.

Horodske is considered one of the oldest settlements in the Zhytomyr region, since the chronicle Horodesk is mentioned in the Ipatiyiv Chronicle as early as 1257. The remains of three ancient Rus settlements have been preserved, which were fortified parts and the post of the chronicle city.

However, this area has an even older history, as archaeologists have examined the remains of settlements of the Trypillyan culture here and the remains of earthen fortifications of the Bronze Age. On Chervona Hill, a landscape and sculpture observ ...

Cultural and Art Center "Polissia House"

Ethnographic complex , Museum / gallery

The cultural and artistic center "Polissia House" in the village of Gorodske in the Zhytomyr region introduces visitors to the traditional culture and way of life of the Polishchuk people, offers various activities for tourist groups and organizes thematic events with a national flavor.

The project has been implemented since 2008 by the Zhytomyr Regional Youth Creative Union of Artists and Art Critics on the initiative of the fine arts teacher Inna Velychko.

The cultural complex was created on the basis of an authentic 19th-century Polissya hut with a fully preserved interior, a working stove and folk household items. Such houses with a large stove, a ceiling supported by two beams, small windows and spacious hallways are still found in almost every Polissia village.

The hostess in folk costume personally welcomes guests in the courtyard, conducts a tour of the surroundings, invites them to the hut, offers master classes in various types of folk art, and also treats them to authentic dishes of Polissia cuisine cooked in the oven.

Folk holidays are regularly celebrated on the basis of "Polissia House", various cultural events and festivals are held, and children's creative activities are held. Since 2025, the first all-season tubing slide in the Zhytomyr region, 40 meters long, has been operating on the territory of "Polissia House".

Holy Spirit Monastery

Temple

The Holy Spirit Men's Monastery was created near the village of Horodske after Archbishop Izyaslav of Zhytomyr and Ovruch got into a car accident here in 2000.

A wooden church, a refectory, cells and utility rooms were built on the shore of the lake in a pine grove. The monastery preserves the relics of Saints Panteleimon the Healer, Nina, and Varvara.

The "Ukrainian Calvary" memorial complex dedicated to the victims of the genocide of the Ukrainian people and repression against the Orthodox clergy was created on the territory of the Holy Spirit Monastery.
