Yasynuvata is a strategically important city in Donetsk region, known as one of the largest railway hubs in Europe.

It arose in 1872 as a station village during the construction of the Kostyantynivka - Olenivka railway. The emergence of the railway was due to the industrial boom in Donbas: the Russian Empire needed routes for the export of coal and ore. Already at the beginning of the 20th century, Yasynuvata became a strategic crossroads connecting Donetsk, Mariupol, Pokrovsk, Debaltseve and Kostyantynivka. Yasynuvata is a strategically important city in Donetsk region, known as one of the largest railway hubs in Europe.

It arose in 1872 as a station village during the construction of the Kostyantynivka - Olenivka railway. The emergence of the railway was due to the industrial boom in Donbas: the Russian Empire needed routes for the export of coal and ore. Already at the beginning of the 20th century, Yasynuvata became a strategic crossroads connecting Donetsk, Mariupol, Pokrovsk, Debaltseve and Kostyantynivka. The formation of the modern appearance of the hub began in the 1930s. Over time, Yasynuvata gained the status of the largest sorting station in Europe in terms of the number of tracks and the volume of wagon processing.

The name of the city comes from the Yasynuvata beam, which, in turn, was named after the ash groves (ash trees) that previously grew massively in this area.

The main architectural decoration of the city is the Railway Station building, built in 1952 according to the design of architect Ihor Vorontsov, and which is an example of the "Stalinist Empire".

At the beginning of the Russian aggression against Ukraine in 2014, the city of Yasynuvata acquired critical importance due to its geographical location - the city is located at the junction of important transport highways connecting Donetsk, Luhansk and the north of the region. In 2014, fierce battles were fought for the city. As a result of the fighting, the infrastructure suffered significant damage, and the railway infrastructure is currently only partially used due to the occupation and the disruption of logistical chains. Currently, Yasynuvata is under temporary Russian occupation.

Виникло у 1872 році як пристанційне селище під час будівництва залізниці Костянтинівка - Оленівка. Поява залізнеиці була зумовлена промисловим бумом на Донбасі: російській імперії потрібні були шляхи для вивезення вугілля та руди. Вже на початку XX століття Ясинувата стала стратегічним перехрестям, що з'єднувало Донецьк, Маріуполь, Покровськ, Дебальцеве та Костянтинівку. Формування сучасного вигляду вузла почалося в 1930-х роках. Згодом Ясинувата здобула статус найбільшої сортувальної станції в Європі за кількістю колій та обсягом переробки вагонів.

Назва міста походить від балки Ясинуватої, яка, своєю чергою, отримала назву від ясенових гаїв (дерево ясен), що раніше масово росли в цій місцевості. 

Головна архітектурна окраса міста - будівля Залізничного вокзалу, зведена у 1952 році за проєктом архітектора Ігоря Воронцова, і яка є зразком "сталінського ампіру".

На початку російської агресії проти України у 2014 році місто Ясинувата набуло критичного значення через своє географічне положення - місто розташоване на стику важливих транспортних магістралей, що з'єднують Донецьк, Луганськ і північ області. У 2014 році за місто точилися запеклі бої. Внаслідок бойових дій інфраструктура зазнала значних руйнувань, а колійне господарство наразі використовується лише частково через окупацію та розрив логістичних ланцюгів. Наразі Ясинувата перебуває під тимчасовою російською окупацією.
