The village of Karlivka is located on the bank of the Karlivka reservoir 20 kilometers from Donetsk in the direction of Dobroslav.
It was founded in 1845 by immigrants from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Poltava provinces. Local residents call their village "Karlo". The Karlivka Reservoir provides storage of Donetsk's drinking water supplies, as well as meeting the production needs of the "Krasnolymanska" mine, the beneficiation factory of the same name, and a number of other industrial enterprises.
A recreation area is being developed on the shore of the reservoir.
