Novi Sanzhary

The village of Novi Sanzhary is located on the Vorskla River 30 kilometers from Poltava in the direction of Kremenchuk.

According to legend, it arose in 1243 at the place of Tatar wintering in a tract called Saint-Chariv by the Tatars. Since 1636, Sanzhary has been mentioned as a Cossack town in the Poltava regiment. Probably, Novi Sanzhary was founded later by the natives of the first settlement, which is now called Stari Sanzhary.

In 1760, the hetman of the Left Bank of Ukraine, Kyrylo Rozumovskyi, gave the settlement to Count Roman Vorontsov. In 1923, Novi Sanzhary received the status of a district center.
