Hirnyk

The city Hirnyk is a former industrial center of the Kurakhove territorial community of Pokrovsk district of Donetsk region, which is currently in the zone of active hostilities and temporary Russian occupation (since the end of October 2024).

The city was founded in 1938 as the village Sotsmistechko in connection with the beginning of the construction of coal mines. Hirnyk received the status of a city in 1958. The basis of the economy was the "Kurakhivska" mine and the enrichment plant. In the 1960s and 1970s, the city was actively developing - high-rise buildings, a palace of culture, schools and a hospital complex appeared. The waste heaps and industrial landscapes around the mines created a "lunar" landscape characteristic of the region. The central part of the city of Hirnyk reflected the architectural style of industrial cities of the mid-20th century.

Due to the difficult security situation, traditional tourism in the city Hirnyk is impossible, and the settlement itself suffered significant damage as a result of artillery shelling and street fighting during the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Центральна частина міста Гірник відображалв архітектурний стиль індустріальних міст середини XX століття.

Через складну безпекову ситуацію традиційний туризм у місті Гірник неможливий, а сам населений пункт зазнав значних руйнувань внаслідок артилерійських обстрілів та вуличних боїв в ході російсько-української війни.
