Berehove

The resort village of Berehove (Kastropol) is located on the Black Sea coast between Alupka and Foros, in the Iphihenia Rock.

In the 11th century, there was a Byzantine fortress of Kastropulo. According to legend, even before the construction of the fortress, an Orthodox monastery was founded in this place in memory of the martyrs crucified on the rock during the persecution of Christians (a memorial cross was installed). This legend resonates with the Greek myth about Iphigenia - a priestess of the goddess Artemis, who sacrificed random sailors by throwing them off the rock that now bears her name.

In the 18th century, the village received the now common name of Kastropol, and in 1971 - Berehove (this name is used only on maps).
