General information about Hnivan
The town of Hnivan on the Pivdenny Buh River is located 20 kilometers south of Vinnytsia.
It was first mentioned in 1629. There are several legends about the origin of the name, and all of them are related to the word "anger".
For a long time, Hnivan was a simple village. The first industrial enterprise in 1848 was the sugar factory of the landowner Yosyp Yaroshynskyi (the ruins have been preserved). During the construction of the Kyiv-Odesa railway, which ran through Hnivan in 1866-71, the industrial development of the Hnivan granite quarry, which belonged to Yaroshynskyi, began. For a long time, Hnivan was a simple village. The first industrial enterprise in 1848 was the sugar factory of the landowner Yosyp Yaroshynskyi (the ruins have been preserved). During the construction of the Kyiv-Odesa railway, which ran through Hnivan in 1866-71, the industrial development of the Hnivan granite quarry, which belonged to Yaroshynskyi, began. The town developed rapidly, becoming a parish center at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. In 1969, the largest Hnivan special reinforced concrete plant in Europe was put into operation.
The Catholic Church of St. Joseph, built in 1906, has been preserved.

Hnivan Granite Quarry
The Hnivan granite quarry is located on the banks of the Pivdennyi Buh in the southern part of Hnivan.
In the 19th century, it belonged to the Podillya nobleman Yosyp Yaroshynskyi. The industrial development of the deposit with granite outcrops began in 1870 during the laying of the Kyiv-Odesa railway through Hnivan, the construction of which required a lot of local building materials. Hnivansky granite was distinguished by its great hardness and beautiful dark gray color - it was widely used for paving the streets of Kyiv, Warsaw, Moscow and other places.
The rapid development of the enterprise occurred in the middle of the 20th century, when production was reconstructed and powerful modern equipment began to be used: EKG-5 excavators, BelAZ dump trucks.
Having survived the economic crisis after the collapse of the USSR, the company is now being revived. Career works. The view from above is impressive.

Saint Joseph's Church

The Church of Saint Joseph was built in Hnivan in 1906 at the expense of landowners Yan Baranovskyi, Karolina Yaroshynska and other Catholic parishioners.
The temple is made in neo-gothic style. Inside, it is decorated with biblical scenes carved from wood. Stained glass windows and chandeliers in the form of large candlesticks create an atmosphere of coziness and peace. Near the altar on the right side is a sculpture of Saint Joseph with the Baby, on the left side - an icon of the Mother of God. In the depth of the building there is an altar with the crucifixion of Jesus.
A grotto of the Virgin Mary was built in the central courtyard.
In Soviet times, the temple was used as a production facility. In 1992, the church of Saint Joseph was returned to the Catholic parish of Hnivani, and restoration was carried out.
