General information about Myrnyi
The closed military settlement Myrnyi on the isthmus between the Black Sea and the Donuzlav salt lake was built in the middle of the 20th century. when creating a reserve base of the Black Sea Fleet of the USSR. A canal was dug through the embankment, and a navigable fairway was dug at the bottom of the lake.
After 1991, the military garrison was disbanded, and the settlement began to develop as a resort.
The unique Myrnyi wind farm, a dolphinarium on Lake Donuzlav, and an abandoned airfield have survived.

Закрите військове селище Мирний на перешийку між Чорним морем і солоним озером Донузлав було збудоване в середині XX століття при створенні запасної бази Чорноморського флоту СРСР. Через пересип був проритий канал, на дні озера викопаний судноплавний фарватер.
Після 1991 року військовий гарнізон був розформований, селище почало розвиватися як курорт.
Збереглася унікальна Мирнівська повітроелектростанція, дельфінарій на озері Донузлав, покинутий аеродром.
Поштовх розвитку курорту дало переміщення до сусідньої Попівки щорічного молодіжного фестивалю "Казантип". Тутешні піщані пляжі вважаються одними з найкращих в Криму.

Donuzlav Lake

Donuzlav is a salt lake in the western part of Crimea, unique in its size, configuration and ecosystem.
The medicinal composition of the water is a mixture of estuary oil, sea and spring waters. The northwestern part of Lake Donuzlav has been declared a reserve.
In 1962, the lake was connected to the sea by a narrow entrance channel, effectively becoming a bay of the Black Sea.
Until 1994, the Crimean naval base of the Black Sea Fleet was located in the port of "Donuzlav", which included units of anti-submarine naval aviation and fighter ships. The base of fighting dolphins has been transformed into a rehabilitation center of the Yevpatoriia Dolphinarium, dolphin therapy sessions (swimming with dolphins) are held.
