Verkhorichchia

The village of Verkhorichchia is located 15 kilometers southeast of Bakhchysarai.

Traces of an early medieval settlement of the IV-V centuries were discovered. The current settlement existed already in the 9th-10th centuries, as evidenced by the ancient tombstones in the old cemetery on the hill. There are also the ruins of a 14th-15th century Greek church, which was destroyed during the Second World War.

Before the deportation of the Crimean Tatars in 1944, the village was called Biya-Sala.

Between Verkhorichchia and the village of Vysoke, there used to be a Greek settlement of Laki, but during the war it was completely destroyed by Hitler's punishers. Only the church of Saint Luke the Apostle has survived, ...
