In the 19th century, an Austrian fort of brick and concrete was built (located in the forest behind the cemetery).
In Polish times, villas and dachas of the local nobility began to be built here. Under the Soviet government, the construction of boarding houses and recreation centers began. Now there is an elite cottage construction, many mini-hotels and restaurants.
Briukhovychi Fort
Castle / fortress
The Austrian fort in Briukhovychi was built in 1912 on Zyavlenska Hora, at the foot of which passes the road to Lviv.
On the western edge of the mountain there are 4 covered brick galleries with a reinforced concrete floor. Two of them are straight, and two are curved in a quarter circle. Rifle galleries have wide loopholes connected by trenches. At the top of the fort there is a gun shelter. From the east, the complex is protected by earth fortifications.
Fort "Zyavlenska Hora" in Briukhovychi did not take an active part in hostilities. The Russian army during the offensive bypassed the fort from the flanks, and the garrison left it. Later, the fortifications were used during the Ukrainian-Polish war of 1918-1919 and during the defense of Lviv in 1939.
Mykhaylo Dzyndra Museum of Modern Sculpture
Museum / gallery
The first museum of modern abstract sculpture in Ukraine was created in Briukhovychi by an outstanding Ukrainian artist, modernist sculptor Mykhaylo Dzyndra, who lived most of his life in the USA.
The artist himself undertook the development of the project and the financing of the construction. The basis of the museum exposition was the sculptures that he brought from America. Among the master's works exhibited in the museum are spectacular sculptures "Lovers" and "Honeymoon", sculptural portraits of women, "Frightened Soldier" and about 800 other sculptures.
The Mykhaylo Dzyndra Museum of Modern Sculpture is a department of the Lviv National Art Gallery.
