Shchastia

The city of Shchastia on the Siverskyi Donets River is a town of energy workers at the Luhansk TPP.

The settlement was founded by runaway peasants who sought happiness in the free lands of Slobozhanshchyna. It was first mentioned as Kovalivka in 1754, when Empress Catherine II presented these lands to the courtier Hrigory Kovalinsky. The brick church of Saint Catherine, built in 1914 by landowner Petro Kovalinsky, has been preserved.

The development of the village is connected with the beginning of construction in 1953 of the Luhansk GRES (now TPP). Shchastia has had the status of a city since 1963.

Поселення засноване селянами-втікачами, які шукали щастя на вільних землях Слобожанщини. Вперше згадується як Ковалівка в 1754 році, коли імператриця Катерина II подарувала ці землі придворному Григорію Ковалинському. Зберігся цегляний Свято-Катерининський храм, побудований в 1914 році поміщиком Петром Ковалинським.

Розвиток пов'язаний з початком будівництва в 1953 році Луганської ГРЕС (нині ТЕС). Статус міста Щастя має з 1963 року.
