General information about Oleksandrivka

The large village of Oleksandrivka is located among low Transcarpathian hills 20 kilometers east of Khust.

It was founded in the 14th-15th centuries as Shandrove. In ancient times, salt mines functioned here, and an active rap well has been preserved.

This is one of the four compactly located villages of Khust region (Sokyrnytsia, Kraynikovo, Danilovo, Oleksandrivka), where unique Gothic wooden churches have been preserved. The Church of Saint Paraskeva is probably the oldest of them. It is possible that it was founded in the 15th century, although it was first mentioned only in 1753. In Soviet times, it housed a local history museum.

Saint Paraskeva Church

Temple , Architecture

The Church of Saint Paraskeva in Oleksandrivka is probably the oldest Gothic church in Khust region.

The exact date of its foundation is unknown. It is likely that the lower beams belong to the 15th century. The year 1753, when the reconstruction was carried out, is considered to be the official date of foundation.

The 25-meter Gothic spire is decorated with decorative towers. The walls and vaults are covered with rich paintings made in 1779 by the artist Stefan Terebelsky. A two-story bell tower rises in front of the main facade.
