Rozhirche

The small Carpathian village of Rozhirche is located in the valley of the Stryi River, 20 kilometers northwest of the city of Stryi. Although the village is only 1 kilometer from the highway "Kyiv - Chop", to enter it you need to make a big detour through the district center, since the nearest road bridge across the river is located there.

Rozhirche was mentioned for the first time in 1460. On the southeastern edge of the village is a rock monastery, the first mentions of which date back to the second half of the 15th century. Probably, the cave monastery existed in the XIII-XIV centuries. An ancient Rus settlement with earthen ramparts was discovered on the top of the mountain above the rock complex ...

To the northwest of the village in the 18th century, the monastery of Saint Onuphrius operated - now there is a hamlet and a small chapel in its place.
