Velyka Bahachka

The picturesque village of Velyka Bahachka is located on the Psel River 75 kilometers east of Lubny.

It was first mentioned on the map of the French engineer Guillaume de Beauplan at the end of the 16th century as the Cossack settlement of Bahachka. The founder is considered to be the Cossack Ivan Bahach (according to another version, the founder was Mykhaylo Braslavets).

During the War of Liberation, the Bahachka Hundred was created (at the entrance to the village there is a memorial sign - a stone with a Cossack cross and a figure of a Cossack).

In 1845, Velyka Bahachka was visited by the poet Taras Shevchenko, when he was describing the architectural and historical monuments of Poltava Oblast on behalf of the Archaeological Commission. The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin, founded in 1710, was destroyed in Soviet times, but in 2001 it was restored in its former form.

In 2008, a monument to Kobzar Fedir Kushnerik was erected.

A 650-700-year-old giant oak grows on the territory of the Kolos stadium. The sanatorium "Psyol" is located on the bank of the river, which uses "Velykobahachanska" mineral water for treatment.
