Chaikyne

The small and remote village of Chaikyne in the very north of Ukraine, near the Ukrainian-Russian border, is known as the birthplace of the second president of Ukraine, Leonid Kuchma.

Chaikyne was founded at the end of the 18th century. According to legend, the founder was the Cossack Chaika.

The village flourished in the 1990s, when Leonid Kuchma, a native of Chaikyne, was elected president. Then gas was brought to the village, a new asphalted road from Novhorod-Siverskyi was laid, new buildings of the village council, school, kindergarten, first aid station and police station were built, a dozen two-story residential cottages were built, a hotel and a swimming pool were opened.

The Church of Saint Paraskeva was built in 1999-2002 and named after the mother of Leonid Kuchma.

In the Chaikyne educational and educational complex, there is a local history and ethnographic gallery, part of which is dedicated to the famous countryman.

Тоді в село провели газ, проклали нову асфальтовану дорогу від Новгорода-Сіверського, побудували нові будівлі сільради, школи, дитячого садка, медпункту та поліцейського відділку, звели десяток двоповерхових житлових котеджів, відкрили готель і басейн.
