Kostobobriv

The village of Kostobobriv above the Kosta River is located 25 kilometers east of Semenivka, near the Ukrainian-Russian border.

It was founded in the 17th century by the Cossacks of the Starodub regiment. The name Kostobobriv is associated with the fact that in those days there were many beavers in the local river Kosta.

The village belonged to Ivan Bystrytskyi, the Sheptakiv old man, then to the Holitsyn princes. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, the village was the parish center of the Novhorod-Siverskyi district of the Chernihiv province.

Built in 1911, the wooden Ascension Church was barbarically destroyed in 1979. In its place, in 1997, on the initiative of Leonid Kuchma, a new St. Daniel Church was built.

Near Kostobobriv, there is a burial mound of Stone Hill (Kamyana Hora) and the remains of an ancient Rus settlement.

Село належало шептаківскому старості Іванові Бистрицькому, потім князям Голіциним. В XIX - на початку XX століття село було волосним центром Новгород-Сіверського повіту Чернігівської губернії.
