For $100,000, an architectural monument from the early 20th century will receive a new roof, which will be the first stage of the building's renovation and transformation into a modern cultural space.

The restoration of the New Hasidic Synagogue will begin soon in the city of Chortkiv in the Ternopil region. The international fund ALIPH Foundation (Switzerland) provided the city with financial support for the start of restoration work, the press service of the Chortkiv City Council reports.

"The negotiations have finally yielded results - an international fund that finances the restoration of historical monuments around the world has approved an application for the restoration of the Chortkiv Synagogue. For the initial work - replacing the roof - the ALIPH fund allocated $100,000," the report says.

The New Hasidic Synagogue in Chortkiv was built in the early 20th century by the Viennese architect Hans Geldkremer. Recently, the building has been in poor condition. The decision to allocate money for its restoration was preceded by lengthy consultations with donors and a detailed examination of the building by specialists from Lviv, the city council said.

"The team working with historical monuments visited Chortkiv and conducted a number of works to examine the Hasidic Synagogue and confirmed the need to replace the roof. The critical condition of the roof leads to waterlogging of the walls, which causes the gradual destruction of the building as a whole," the press service noted.

In addition, the synagogue was examined by the Skeiron company from Lviv, which conducted a 3D laser scan of the building. This will help architects determine which parts need to be replaced and how best to choose materials to preserve the historical appearance.

In the future, it is planned to create a Center for Jewish Culture on the basis of the synagogue - a modern cultural space and a center for the development of cultural diversity.

Реставрація Нової хасидської синагоги розпочнеться незабаром у місті Чортків на Тернопільщині. Фінансову підтримку на початок реставраційних робіт надав місту міжнародний фонд ALIPH Foundation (Швейцарія), повідомляє пресслужба Чортківської міської ради 

"Перемовини нарешті дали результат – міжнародний фонд, що фінансує відновлення історичних пам’яток у цілому світі, погодив заявку на реставрацію Чортківської синагоги. Для початкових робіт – заміни покрівлі – фонд ALIPH виділив 100 тисяч доларів", – йдеться у повідомленні.

Нова хасидська синагога в Чорткові збудована на початку XX століття віденським архітектором Гансом Гельдкремером. Останнім часом будівля перебуває у поганому стані. Рішенню про виділення грошей на її реставрацію передували тривалі консультації з донорами та детальне обстеження будівлі спеціалістами зі Львова, кажуть у міськраді.

"Команда, що працює з історичними пам’ятками, відвідала Чортків та провела ряд робіт з обстеження Хасидської синагоги та підтвердила необхідність заміни саме покрівлі. Критичний стан даху призводить до замокання стін, що спричиняє поступову руйнацію будівлі в цілому", – зазначили у пресслужбі.

Окрім того, синагогу обстежила компанія Skeiron зі Львова, яка провела лазерне 3D сканування будівлі. Це допоможе архітекторам визначити, які частини потребують заміни та як краще підібрати матеріали, щоб зберегти історичний вигляд.

У подальшому на базі синагоги планується створення Центру єврейської культури – сучасного культурного простору та осередку розвитку культурного різноманіття.
