The historical center of Chernihiv wants to be included in the UNESCO heritage list

Minister Oleksandr Tkachenko said this during his visit to Chernihiv on April 3. In the city, he met with UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulet. Together they visited the building of the former cinema, which the Russian invaders destroyed with a rocket a year ago.

"It is surprising that in fact life does not stop, what's more, cultural life does not stop, it exists in this territory. And I believe that this is an important element of unity in the eyes of Ukrainians. It is an important element of what characterizes them as a nation, and this is, which we must support," said Audrey Azoulet.

In 2021, restoration work began in the building of the former cinema. This building is an architectural monument. Before the start of the full-scale invasion, the Chernihiv Regional Youth Center worked every day. It was a free space for young people. Musical instruments and photographic equipment, multimedia projectors, and screens were stored in the center. Now there is a leaking ceiling and a completely destroyed part of the building.

We will remind that at the end of January 2023, the Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko spoke about the plans to include the historical center of Chernihiv in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Oleksandr Shevchuk, head of the Chernihiv City Department of Culture and Tourism, confirmed the same information. Then, according to him, there was a change in the nomination to which Chernihiv was to apply, and after the formation of the working group, the process of preparing the submission of all the necessary documents was to begin.

"For us, the procedure for submitting documents will be at an accelerated pace, our city really needs it. According to preliminary data, we would like to invest in one year," said Shevchuk.

Про це сказав міністр Олександр Ткаченко під час візиту до Чернігова 3 квітня. У місті він зустрівся з генеральною директоркою ЮНЕСКО Одрі Азуле. Разом вони відвідали будівлю колишнього кінотеатру, який російські окупанти ракетою зруйнували рік тому.

"Дивує, що насправді життя не зупиняється, що більше, культурне життя не зупиняється, воно є на цій території. І я вважаю, що це важливий елемент єдності в очах українців. Це важливий елемент того, що характеризує їх як націю, і це те, що ми повинні підтримувати", - сказала Одрі Азуле.

У будівлі колишнього кінотеатру у 2021 році розпочали реставраційні роботи. Ця будівля є пам'яткою архітектури. До початку повномасштабного вторгнення Чернігівський обласний молодіжний центр працював щодня. Це був вільний простір для молоді. У центрі зберігалися музичні інструменти та фотообладнання, мультимедійні проєктори, екрани. Нині ж тут протікає стеля та повністю знищена частина будівлі.

Нагадаємо, що наприкінці січня 2023 року про плани включити історичний центр Чернігова до списку Світової спадщини ЮНЕСКО розповідав міністр культури та інформаційної політики України Олександр Ткаченко. Цю ж інформацію підтвердив і начальник Чернігівського міського управління культури і туризму Олександр Шевчук. Тоді, за його словами, відбувалася зміна номінації, на яку мав подаватись Чернігів, а після формування робочої групи мав розпочатись процес підготовки подачі всіх необхідних документів.

"Для нас процедура подання документів буде у пришвидшеному темпі, це дійсно дуже потрібно нашому місту. За попередніми даними, ми хотіли б вкластися в один рік", - сказав Шевчук.
