The Ukrainian trident was installed on the shield of the Motherland monument

The Soviet coat of arms on the shield of the Motherland monument in Kyiv was replaced by a trident, which is a small state coat of arms of Ukraine. This is reported by the administration of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War on the official Facebook page.

"On August 6, the steel trident rose 90 meters - to the shield of the highest monument in Europe, Motherland Monument. This happened within the framework of the project "Trident of the Motherland" and the process of decommunization," the message said.

It is noted that the dimensions of the metal sign of the princely era of Vladimir the Great are 4.5x7.5 meters - it is much larger than the Soviet coat of arms, which was placed on the shield before. That part of the shield's surface, which remained empty, is planned to be completely covered with steel plates in the future. The new metal structures will be specially treated so that they do not radically differ from the rest of the sculpture.

The museum decided to place the dismantled Soviet coat of arms from the monument in the exposition as a museum exhibit.

"For decades, he symbolized a totalitarian regime that oppressed peoples and destroyed millions of people. And even now his followers are waging war in Ukraine. He will become a valuable artifact about the age of terror and the consequences of the existence of this regime for today," the administration said.

The opening of the updated sculpture will take place at the end of August, the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy reported.

"We expect that the work on replacing the Soviet coat of arms with a trident will be completed on time. By the Day of the National Flag of Ukraine and the Independence Day of Ukraine, we will be able to please the Ukrainian people with such an important and necessary element of our confrontation in the ideological struggle with the enemy," - the press service quotes the words of Mr. in. at. Minister of Culture and Information Policy Rostislav Karandeev.

After public discussions, the scientific board of the museum decided to rename the monument to "Ukraine-Mother". This initiative will be considered by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy.

Радянський герб на щиті монументу "Батьківщина-Мати" у Києві замінили на тризуб, що є малим державним гербом України. Про це повідомляє адміністрація Національного музею історії України у Другій світовій війні на офіційній сторінці у Facebook.

"6 серпня сталевий тризуб піднявся на 90 метрів – до щита найвищого монумента Європи "Батьківщина-Мати". Це сталося в межах проєкту "Тризуб Батьківщини" та процесу декомунізації", – сказано у повідомленні.

Зазначається, що розміри металевого знаку княжої доби Володимира Великого становлять 4,5х7,5 метрів – він значно більший за радянський герб, який розміщувався на щиті раніше. Ту частину поверхні щита, яка залишилася порожньою, у подальшому планують повністю закрити пластинами зі сталі. Буде проведена спеціальна обробка нових металевих конструкцій, щоби вони кардинально не відрізнялися від решти скульптури.

Демонтований з монумента радянський герб музей вирішив розмістити в експозиції як музейний експонат. 

"Десятки років він символізував тоталітарний режим, який пригнічував народи, знищував мільйони людей. І навіть зараз його послідовники ведуть війну в Україні. Він стане цінним артефактом про добу терору та наслідки існування цього режиму для сьогодення", – зазначили в адміністрації.

Відкриття оновленої скульптури відбудеться наприкінці серпня, повідомили в пресслужбі Міністерства культури та інформаційної політики.

"Ми очікуємо, що роботи щодо заміни радянського герба на тризуб будуть завершені вчасно. До Дня Державного прапора України та Дня Незалежності України ми зможемо порадувати український народ таким важливим та необхідним елементом нашого протистояння в ідеологічній боротьбі з ворогом", – цитує пресслужба слова т. в. о. міністра культури та інформаційної політики Ростислава Карандєєва.

Після громадських обговорень вчена рада музею ухвалила рішення перейменувати монумент на "Україну-Мати". Цю ініціативу розгляне Міністерство культури та інформаційної політики.
