Kyiv's "Flying Saucer" to be transformed into a concert hall and museum

The restoration project of the famous "Flying Saucer" on Lybidska Square in Kyiv was presented by the Ukrainian Institute of Scientific and Technical Expertise and Information. The institute published renderings with visualization of the plans for the transformation of the building on a Facebook page dedicated to this project.

The "Flying Saucer" on Lybidska is being restored according to an approved and coordinated project with cultural heritage protection authorities, which has undergone all necessary procedures and received permission. The main facade and volume of the monument are not changing - everything that is subject to protection is preserved," the authors of the report emphasize.

Plans to reconstruct the building at 180 Antonovich Street and join it to a new shopping and entertainment complex have been causing public concern for several years, since this modernist-style building, built in 1971 according to the design of architect Florian Yuriev, is an important part of the architectural landscape of the capital. In 2020, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy included the building in the register of monuments of architecture and monumental art.

The authors of the project assure that the restoration is taking place at a professional level and will not change the visual image of the monument. At the same time, the reconstruction of adjacent buildings that are not monuments, but were historically united with it, will be carried out.

"A project for the reconstruction of adjacent buildings that are historically adjacent to monuments located nearby and not having the status of cultural heritage sites. They are united into a single spatial ensemble through the development of the internal space - without interfering with the protected part," the institute says.

It is planned that as a result of the restoration, "Saucer" will get a second life as a modern public space - it will house a concert hall, STEAM laboratories, as well as the "Rodovid" museum, which will demonstrate the legacy of Florian Yuryiv. His works will be placed on a permanent basis in the lobby under the conference hall.

Проєкт реставрації знаменитої "Літаючої тарілки" на Либідській площі у Києві представив Український інститут науково-технічної експертизи та інформації. Рендери з візуалізацією планів трансформації будівлі інститут оприлюднив на Facebook-сторінції, присвяченій цьому проєкту.

"Літаюча тарілка" на Либідській реставрується за затвердженим і погодженим проєктом з органами охорони культурної спадщини, який пройшов всі необхідні процедури та отримав дозвіл. Головний фасад і об’єм пам’ятки не змінюються – усе, що є предметом охорони, зберігається", – наголошують автори повідомлення.

Плани щодо реконструкції будівлі по вулиці Антоновича, 180 та приєднання її до нового торговельно-розважального комплексу вже кілька років викликають занепокоєння громадськості, оскільки ця споруда в стилі модернізму, зведена у 1971 році за проєктом архітектора Флоріана Юр'єва, є важливою частиною архітектурного ландшафту столиці. 2020 року Міністерство культури та інформаційної політики внесло будівлю до реєстру пам'яток архітектури та монументального мистецтва.

Автори проєкту запевняють, що реставрація відбувається на фаховому рівні та не змінить візуального образу пам'ятки. Водночас буде проведена реконструкція суміжних будівель, які пам’ятками не є, але історично були обʼєднані з нею.

"Паралельно реалізується проєкт реконструкції суміжних будівель, які історично примикають до пам’ятки, розташовані поруч і не мають статусу об’єктів культурної спадщини. Вони об’єднуються в єдиний просторовий ансамбль через забудову внутрішнього простору – без втручання в охоронювану частину", – кажуть в інституті.

Планується, що в результаті реставрації "Тарілка" отримує друге життя як сучасний громадський простір – у ній розмісять концертний зал, STEAM-лабораторії, а також музей "Родовід", що демонструватиме спадщину Флоріана Юр’єва. Його роботи будуть розміщені на постійній основі у холі під конференцзалом.
