Kolodiy-2026: where to celebrate Masnytsia in Kyiv and nearby

Masnytsia, Syropust or Kolodiy is an ancient Slavic holiday of farewell to winter and meeting spring, which has pagan roots. In Christianity, it is tied to the transition from the period of winter holidays to Great Lent. Since ancient times, the celebration of Masnytsia has been accompanied by folk festivities, the Kolodiy rite of tying a shoe to unmarried guys and treating them to traditional dishes - primarily dumplings with cheese.

Masnytsia Week in 2026 falls on February 16-22. It is on the last weekend of the holiday week, before the beginning of Lent, that several locations in Kyiv and around the capital will host traditional festivities with interesting rituals and treats of Ukrainian dishes.

Masnytsia at VDNH
February 21–22, 2026; free admission

A grand Masnytsia celebration will take place at VDNH in the finale of the "Winter Country". For two days, the exhibition center will be filled with vesnyanka and haivka, folk rituals, dance master classes and performances by folklore groups will take place. Guests will not only have fun, but also get to know the customs that have shaped Ukrainian culture for centuries.

National Complex "Expocenter of Ukraine" (VDNG) will be transformed into a bright ethno-space with straw decorations, ribbons and thematic photo zones for these days. The holiday will recreate ancient Masnytsia traditions: knitting a kolodka, symbolic farewell to winter and calling for spring. And also a humorous rite of kolodkivaniye, which will add a real folk flavor to the event. And, of course, it will be delicious: food courts will treat you to pancakes, dumplings and other traditional dishes with various fillings.

The program also includes lectures on Ukrainian customs from the "Vytoky" project: Book Space will talk about the meanings of Masnytsia, traditional dishes and rituals. The ritual part will be conducted by singer and bandur player Bohdana Onopchuk. And the culmination of the celebration will be a spectacular rite of burning the effigy of winter - a symbolic farewell to the cold and the meeting of spring

Kolodiy (Masnytsia) in "Mamayeva Sloboda"

The celebration at the open-air museum "Mamayeva Sloboda" will take place in the format of an interactive lecture "Masnytsia will pass - you will have to fast." You will be able to learn about the place of dairy products in the traditional cuisine of Ukrainians, about the origin of varenyky and whether pancakes were prepared for Masnytsia, why Syropust was called "women's week", and what songs women sang in taverns, what was the reproductive pressure on young people in the past and what is the wooden block for and how to correctly pronounce it: "Masnytsia", "Syropust" or "Kolodiy". Guests are promised an immersion in the traditions, customs and gastronomic culture of Ukrainians in order to rediscover the meanings of one of the most colorful folk holidays. Starting at 13:00.

Kolodiy in the "Ukrainian Village"

The Museum and Ethnographic Complex "Ukrainian Village" invites you to join Ukrainian traditions on Kolodiy together with folklorists of the "Yasno-Krasno" group and famous ethnographers Natalka Leshchenko and Olenka Vydrych. From 1:00 PM, authentic singing, jokes, fun and dancing will take place on the territory of the complex.

The program includes: games on the lawn and "swapping the kolodka", spring dances and joint singing of songs, dances and folk fun, clinging to the kolodka for singles, burning the straw Kostrub - at the end.

During the day, guests will be offered: master classes in folk crafts, excursions to the museum and greenhouses (by appointment), sale of folk crafts in the museum shop, a mini-zoo, and a treat of pancakes, dumplings, kulish and hot drinks in the open air. You can also visit a Ukrainian restaurant and relax in a gazebo (by reservation).

Kolodiy: welcoming spring in Pereyaslav

The National Historical and Ethnographic Reserve "Pereyaslav" invites you to welcome the arrival of spring at the Folk Architecture and Life Museum of the Middle Dnipro Region. Here you can learn all about Kolodiy and the custom of "clinging the shoe", dance folk dances, choose a master class, taste a traditional Ukrainian dish - dumplings with sour cream and take creative photos.

The festival program includes: performances by folklore and ethnographic groups, folk festivals and fun entertainment, "The Town of Masters", master classes from folk art masters, a pillar with gifts for the clever, the sale of traditional dishes, the burning of a straw effigy - a symbol of everything negative and bad.

Part of the festival will be charitable events from the NGO "Team Unconquered" to raise funds for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Масниця, Сиропуст або Колодій – це давнє слов’янське свято прощання із зимою та зустрічі весни, яке має язичницьке коріння. У християнстві воно прив'язане до переходу від періоду зимових свят до Великого посту. Здавна святкування Масниці супроводжувалося народними гуляннями, обрядом Колодія з прив'язуванням колодки неодруженим хлопцям та частуванням традиційними стравами – насамперед варениками із сиром.

Масний тиждень у 2026 році припадає на 16-22 лютого. Саме в останні вихідні святкового тижня, перед початком Великого посту, на кількох локаціях у Києві та навколо столиці влаштують традиційні гуляння з цікавими обрядами і частуванням українськими стравами.

Масниця на ВДНГ

У фіналі "Зимової країни" на ВДНГ відбудеться велике святкування Масниці. Протягом двох днів на території виставкового центру лунатимуть веснянки та гаївки, відбуватимуться народні обряди, танцювальні майстеркласи й виступи фольклорних гуртів. Гості зможуть не просто повеселитися, а й ближче познайомитися зі звичаями, які формували українську культуру століттями.

Національний комплекс "Експоцентр України" (ВДНГ) на ці дні перетвориться на яскравий етнопростір із солом’яними декораціями, стрічками та тематичними фотозонами. На святі відтворять давні масничні традиції: в’язання колодки, символічні проводи зими та закликання весни. А ще жартівливий обряд колодкування, що додасть події справжнього народного колориту. І, звісно ж, буде смачно: фудкорти пригощатимуть налисниками, варениками та іншими традиційними стравами з різноманітними начинками.

У програмі також лекторій про українські звичаї від проєкту "Витоки": у Book Space говоритимуть про сенси Масниці, традиційні страви та обряди. Обрядову частину проведе співачка й бандуристка Богдана Онопчук. А кульмінацією святкування стане видовищний обряд спалення опудала зими – символічне прощання з холодами та зустріч весни

Колодій (Масниця) в "Мамаєвій Слободі"

Святкування у музеї просто неба "Мамаєва Слобода" відбудеться у форматі інтерактивної лекції "Мине Масни‌ця – доведеться пости‌ться". Можна буде дізнатися про місце молочних продуктів у традиційній кухні українців, про походження вареників та чи готували на Масницю млинці, чому Сиропуст називали "жіночим тижнем", і які пісні співали жінки в корчмах, яким був репродуктивний тиск на молодь у минулому та до чого тут дерев’яна колодка та як усе-таки правильно: "Масниця", "Сиропуст" чи "Масляна". Гостям обіцяють занурення в традиції, звичаї та гастрономічну культуру українців, аби по-новому відкрити для себе сенси одного з найколоритніших народних свят. Початок о 13:00.

Колодій в "Українському селі"
21–22 лютого 2026; вхід вільний

Музейно-етнографічний комплекс "Українське село" запрошує доєднатися до українських традицій на Колодія разом із фольклористами гурту "Ясно-Красно" й відомими етнографинями Наталкою Лещенко та Оленкою Видрич. З 13:00 на території комплексу будуть автентичні співі, жарти, забави і танці.

У програмі: ігри на галявині та "сповивання колодки", веснянки й спільне розспівування пісень, танці та народні забави, чіпляння колодки неодруженим, спалення солом’яного Коструба – на завершення.

Протягом дня гостям пропонуватимуть: майстеркласи народних ремесел, екскурсії музеєм і теплицями (за записом), продаж народного промислу у музейній крамничці, мінізоопарк, частування млинцями, варениками, кулішем і гарячими напоями просто неба. Також можна буде відвідати ресторан української кухні та відпочити в альтанці (за бронюванням).

Колодій: зустрічаємо весну у Переяславі
21 лютого; дорослий – 160 грн, дитячий – 80 грн

Національний історико-етнографічний заповідник "Переяслав" запрошує зустріти прихід весни в Музеї народної архітектури та побуту Середньої Наддніпрянщини. Тут можна буде дізнатися все про Колодія та звичай "чіпляння колодки", затанцювати народних танців, обрати собі майстерклас, скуштувати традиційної української страви – вареників зі сметаною та зробити креативні фото.

У програмі свята: виступи фольклорно-етнографічних колективів, народні гуляння і веселі розваги, "Містечко майстрів", майстеркласи від майстрів народної творчості, стовп із подарунками для спритних, продаж традиційних страв, спалення солом’яного опудала – символу всього негативного та поганого.

Частиною свята стануть благодійні заходи від ГО "Команда Нескорені" зі збору коштів на потреби ЗСУ.
