On the site of the Starokyivska Hill cleared of illegal construction, they plan to conduct archaeological research and organize educational events on historical topics.
The National Museum of the History of Ukraine, together with the State Executive Service, removed from the territory of the museum the chapel of the UOC MP, which was illegally built by Moscow churchmen near the foundations of the Church of the Tithes in Kyiv 18 years ago. This is reported by the museum administration on the official Facebook page.
"The State Executive Service of Ukraine ensured the execution of the court decision on the dismantling of the illegal structure, which existed in various forms on the territory of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine from 2006 to 2024. The history of the arbitrary construction of this building on particularly valuable land, the owner of which is the state, will become a textbook example of irresponsibility officials and, at the same time, disrespecting the cultural heritage of Ukraine of international importance," the message reads.
The administration notes that in this way the obstacle to the maximum access of citizens to the common place of memory was removed, for which there were all legal reasons.
"The museum plans to use the territory, and in particular the vacated site, for educational events and children's programs dedicated to both the ancient past and the modern history of Ukraine. Also, in the future, archaeological research is planned for areas that have not yet been studied or have not become exhibition objects." - told in the museum.
According to the administration, the case of the illegal construction on the territory of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine demonstrated the unity of civil society and its active support for the legal decision.
