Korolenko Literary and Memorial Museum in Zhytomyr has updated its exposition

A completely updated exposition was presented at the Volodymyr Korolenko Literary and Memorial Museum in Zhytomyr to mark the 172nd anniversary of the birth of this world-famous writer and public figure. As "Suspilne" reports, the concept of the exposition has undergone significant changes, and new exhibits have also appeared.

According to Oksana Bovkun, a research associate and the author of the concept for the museum's re-exhibition, the Korolenko Museum has long needed changes. The previous exposition was created back in 1973 and no longer met the demands of the time or modern design requirements.

"We decided to place most of the information on new large stands, made according to modern printing standards. The arrangement of materials on the stands and changes in the artistic design of the museum were handled by Honored Artist of Ukraine Yuriy Dubinin. We supplemented the exposition with new documents and photographs, most of which were given to us by colleagues from the Volodymyr Korolenko Literary and Memorial Museum in Poltava," said Oksana Bovkun.

According to Oksana Bovkun, the hall of the Zhytomyr period now presents interesting documents that indicate the writer's Cossack origin.

"There is, in particular, a genealogical table of Volodymyr Korolenko's ancestors on the paternal line from the 17th century. As well as documents indicating belonging to the noble family of the Korolenko family. In the same hall, high-quality reproductions of 19th-century Zhytomyr species have appeared, as well as new exhibits: children's books and gymnasium notebooks from the time of Korolenko," said the author of the concept for the museum's re-exhibition.

A new exhibit has appeared in the diorama "Children of the Dungeon" - a stuffed owl, which now more closely matches the plot of the story.

For the first time, the new exposition presented the theme of family ties between two families: the Korolenkos and the Vernadskys. The famous Ukrainian scientist Volodymyr Ivanovich Vernadsky was a second cousin of Volodymyr Korolenko.

The dining room was also renovated, where there is now an old buffet, memorial dishes, a large clock, and a retro first-aid kit on the wall.

"In the same hall, we placed copies of Volodymyr Korolenko's artwork from his travel albums. This was a novelty of the exhibition, because previously this side of the writer's work was not presented much. Now visitors can see what a talented artist Korolenko was, how much he loved nature and how skillfully he created sketches," said Oksana Bovkun.

Oksana Bovkun also reported that the Poltava hall of the museum presents materials about Volodymyr Korolenko's public activities, in particular - about his defense of Jews from pogroms, participation in the notorious "Beilis Case", and the fight against the arbitrariness of the Bolshevik regime.

"Separate stands tell about Volodymyr Korolenko's creative connections with Ukrainian writers: Ivan Franko, Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi, Ivan Karpenko-Karyi and others. All the halls are supplemented with books from the museum's collection, including publications by Zhytomyr writers with their gift inscriptions," said Oksana Bovkun.

The museum has already been opened to visitors. Its first guests were students of Lyceum No. 6 named after Volodymyr Korolenko.

Повністю оновлену експозицію представили у Літературно-меморіальному музеї Володимира Короленка в Житомирі до 172 річниці від дня народження цього письменника зі світовим ім'ям. Як повідомляє "Суспільне", значних змін зазнала концепція експозиції, також з'явилися нові експонати.

За словами наукової співробітниці, авторки концепції реекспозиції Оксани Бовкун, музей Короленка давно потребував змін. Попередня експозиція була створена ще у 1973 році, і вже не відповідала ані запитам часу, ані сучасним вимогам оформлення.

"Вирішили розмістити більшість інформації на нових великих стендах, виготовлених за сучасними стандартами поліграфії. Розташуванням матеріалів на стендах та змінами в художньому оформленні музею займався заслужений художник України Юрій Дубінін. Експозицію ми доповнили новими документами та фотографіями, більшість із яких нам передали колеги з Літературно-меморіального музею Володимира Короленка у Полтаві", – розповіла Оксана Бовкун.

За словами узейниці, у залі житомирського періоду тепер представлені цікаві документи, які вказують на козацьке походження письменника.

"Є, зокрема, генеалогічна таблиця предків Володимира Короленка по батьковій лінії з XVII століття. А також документи, які вказують на приналежність до дворянського роду родини Короленка. В цьому ж залі з'явилися якісні репродукції видів Житомира ХІХ століття, а також нові експонати: дитячі книги та гімназичні зошити часів Короленка", – повідомила авторка концепції реекспозиції музею.

У діорамі "Діти підземелля" з'явився новий експонат – опудало сови, що тепер більше відповідає сюжету повісті.

Вперше у новій експозиції представили тему родинних зв'язків між двома родами: Короленків і Вернадських. Відомий український вчений Володимир Іванович Вернадський доводився троюрідним братом Володимиру Короленку.

Також оновили кімнату-їдальню, де тепер є старовинний буфет, меморіальний посуд, великий годинник, ретро-аптечка на стіні.

"У цьому ж залі ми розмістили копії художніх робіт Володимира Короленка з його дорожніх альбомів. Це стало новинкою експозиції, адже раніше цей бік творчості письменника був представлений мало. Тепер відвідувачі можуть побачити, яким талановитим художником був Короленко, як любив природу і як майстерно створював замальовки", – сказала Оксана Бовкун.

Також вона повідомила, що у Полтавській залі музею представлено матеріали про громадську діяльність Володимира Короленка, зокрема – про його захист євреїв від погромів, участь у гучній "Справі Бейліса", боротьбу зі свавіллям більшовицького режиму.

"Окремі стенди розповідають про творчі зв'язки Володимира Короленка з українськими письменниками: Іваном Франком, Михайлом Коцюбинським, Іваном Карпенком-Карим та іншими. Усі зали доповнені книгами із зібрання музею, з-поміж яких – і видання житомирських літераторів з їх дарчими написами", – розповіла Оксана Бовкун.

Музей вже відкрили для відвідувачів. Першими його гостями стали учні ліцею №6, що носить ім'я Володимира Короленка.
