As a result of the Russian attack in the center of Kherson, a hotel built in the early 20th century and having the status of an architectural monument of local importance burned down.

The historic building of the "Europeiskyi" hotel in Kherson suffered significant damage as a result of artillery shelling of the city center by Russian terrorists. The civilian population was not injured, but a severe fire broke out in the building, reports the press service of the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Kherson region.

"As a result of enemy shelling, a fire broke out in a three-story non-residential building, which quickly caught fire. Rescuers arrived at the scene and began to eliminate the consequences of the shelling, operating under the constant threat of repeated shelling and attacks by enemy UAVs," the report says.

The "Europeiskyi" hotel was the largest and most prestigious in Kherson in the first half of the 20th century. It was built in 1915 on the corner of the current Soborna and Rishelievska streets. During Soviet times, the hotel "May 1" and the popular restaurant "Kherson" were located here. Since 1990, the facility has had the status of an architectural monument of local importance.

According to Kherson activist Ivan Simochkin, the fire lasted all day and caused very significant losses to the architectural monument.

"Only the outer walls will remain from it, as has already happened with many old historical buildings in Kherson that were destroyed by Russian barbarians," Simochkin emphasized.

It is worth noting that in recent years the building has been abandoned. According to local media, it was owned by the former mayor and Russian collaborator Volodymyr Saldo.

Історична будівля готелю "Європейський" у Херсоні зазнала значних пошкоджень в результаті артилерійського обстрілу середмістя російськими терористами. Цивільне населення не постраждало, але в будинку сталася сильна пожежа, повідомляє пресслужба Головного управління ДСНС України у Херсонській області.

"Внаслідок ворожого артобстрілу виникла пожежа у триповерховій нежитловій будівлі, яку швидко охопило полум’я. Рятувальники прибули на місце події та приступили до ліквідації наслідків обстрілу, діючи під постійною загрозою повторних обстрілів та атак ворожих БпЛА", – йдеться в повідомленні.

Готель "Європейський" був найбільшим і найпрестижнішим у Херсоні в першій половині ХХ століття. Збудований у 1915 році на розі нинішніх вулиць Соборної та Рішельєвської. За радянських часів тут розміщувався готель "1 травня" і популярний ресторан "Херсон". З 1990 року об'єкт має статус пам'ятки архітектури місцевого значення.

За словами херсонського активіста Івана Сімочкіна, пожежа тривала цілий день і завдала архітектурній пам'ятці дуже значних втрат.

"Від нього залишаться тільки зовнішні стіни, як сталося вже з багатьма старими історичними будинками в Херсоні, які знищили російські варвари", – наголосив Сімочкін.

Варто відзначити, що останніми роками будівля стояла занедбаною. За інформацією місцевих ЗМІ, вона перебувала у власності колишнього мера і російського колаборанта Володимира Сальдо.
